"Over many years, beginning when my daughter and son were very young, I gradually obtained an education in nursing. In the 1990's I graduated with what I thought would be my final degree as a Nurse Practitioner, from the University of Michigan. By that time I had a
granddaughter. Then I realized that I wished to obtain the terminal nursing degree, a doctorate. I was paying off a student loan and working full time as an orthopedic nurse practitioner. Eleven years later, with my student loan paid, and the chance to cut back my work hours at the University of Michigan to 3/4 time, I began the doctorate program. I finished in July, 2011. I now have a granddaughter in college and a granddaughter in high school, as well as a daughter who is a Nurse Practitioner with her doctorate. This diploma represents 10 & 1/2 years full-time education over a period of several decades. It required hard work but more importantly it means that it is never too late to realize a dream regardless of age or how long it takes to complete."
